The Digital Art and Traditional Art- Pros and Cons article, written by Robert Marzullo, talks about his personal experience being a traditional artist for over 40 years. Then he started to experiment with digital art tools about 15 years starting with a Wacom drawing tablet and using Illustrator. So let's start with the Pros digitally he highlighted: Which organization was much more efficient, being able to make full-color artwork from start to finish, and that digital art is cleaner since you can control the resolution, how much cheaper it is in the long run, not buying a lot of art supplies, and not having to carry all of the supplies while traveling, less likely to lose their artwork, and it's easy to create and share your work much easier. Let’s jump into the Cons digitally: The higher cost initially for programs/devices, the learning curve for the art programs/settings, Marzullo also talks about how AI might affect how people look at your work since they won't understand all the time spent making it if they assume its AI, and more easily distracted since you can use various apps and lose focus while working. Traditional Art Pros: Original art to sell/share with your fans, lower cost of entry in the short term, less of a learning curve, people are more amazed by traditional art and feel more of a connection to it. It feels more relaxing than the digital art experience, not beholden to these companies and their programs to create your art, and real art is also great for entertainment, watching a street performer paint is Amazing. Traditional Art Cons: Art supplies are expensive over the long term, carrying around those supplies, and creating videos of the process is much more demanding; it is harder to make edits to the work, resizing, changing proportions, and various adjustments are easier with digital tools, work is more volatile to things like being misplaced, stolen, or damaged, sharing your work requires a scanner if you want to control the resolution and quality. So overall, from reading this article, it seems like both medians have their strong points and weaknesses depending on your art style, which you prefer personally as an artist.
